Job Description

Provides field operational survey services as assigned in support of land-based survey projects; Performs as member of survey field crew in completion of various survey project types.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains conventional and satellite survey equipment for completion of survey projects.
  • Assists Survey Party Chief in daily operations of survey crews.
  • Assumes certain Survey Party Chief responsibilities in leading survey crews on projects when assigned.
  • Collects data on various types of jobs, to include: topo work, pipeline, water and boundary.
  • Performs survey calculations.
  • Cuts brush and trees to clear line of sight for survey.
  • Drives company vehicles to transport equipment and crew.
  • Loads and unloads equipment from vehicle at work locations.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties or completes special projects as assigned.

  • High School Diploma and 2-3 years' experience in land surveying or related field required; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

Math Ability:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software is required, such as Microsoft Office products.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be exposed to loud environments such as production plant or construction site with large earth-moving equipment. Working conditions are frequently outdoors in the state of Louisiana or Texas: very hot and humid summers, mild and wet winters. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, risk of electric shock, and vibration.

  • The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Strenuous physical effort carrying equipment/walking through rough terrain; working in water environment, usually inland waters.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to finder, feel, or handle. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Additional Information about This Job:

  • This position requires working long hours and on weekends; requires daily travel and working away from home base for extended periods.
