Job Description

Leadership in business development efforts across the Region and through the US. Works directly with business development director, regional manager and group managers to define goals related to the company's strategic business plan. Provides oversight on marketing materials. Acts as a representative of the company in the market place and develops client relationships.

Roles and Responsibilities

With limited supervision and moderate to heavy decision-making:

  • Lead planning of business development strategies and objectives; provide direction to the company's strategic business plan.
  • Partner with project managers to develop programs that support the goals of their.
  • Individual marketing plans.
  • Identify and qualify prospective clients.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with new prospects or existing clients for future business and /or referrals.
  • Strategize and prepare responses to requests for qualifications and proposals, including selection of teaming partners.
  • Conduct business development activities such as client visits, brown bag seminars, presentations, phone calls and trade shows.
  • Identify potential new clientele for company.
  • Maintain network of contacts in various business service lines for the purposes of finding project leads, identifying market trends and having general and detailed knowledge of the various markets.
  • Maintain and grow client portfolios, leading to new sources of revenue.
  • Create and develop internal and external communications related to business development.
  • Provide support for submittals and proposals for high profile projects.
  • Work with corporate marketing and business development department, including submission of information for company newsletter.
  • Handle cold calling and initial presentation of company's services.
  • Track client feedback information and ensure commitments to clients are met
  • Assist with marketing and services by demonstrating safety and quality at every job site.
  • Be able to travel as required, both domestically and internationally.
  • Observe and follow all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company's processes, including safety program and quality management system.
  • Communicate tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
  • Come to work regularly and on time.
  • Execute work duties in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.

  • Possess current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computers and software.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, including verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to represent Fugro in a professional, business-like manner.
  • Must strictly adhere to Fugro's safe driving policy, standards and requirements.
  • Be able to travel to various client offices and job sites.
  • Be highly organized and able to work within deadlines.
  • Be able to treat information in a confidential manner.
  • Be able to work well independently and with others.
  • Maintain effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
  • Possess or be able to obtain valid passport.
  • Be able to work occasional weekends and overtime when required.

Physical Qualifications

  • Perform moderate work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.


  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Business or related field; Equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of related experience or equivalent (with an A/E firm preferred).
  • Familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
