Job Description

Responsible for performing various types of pavement/roadway data collection, using a number of specialized pieces of test equipment and techniques. 

Roles and Responsibilities

 After training, with minimum supervision and moderate decision-making:

  • Observes and follows all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company's processes, including safety program and quality management system.
  • Perform standard field data collection on highways, city streets, airports, shipping ports, etc. throughout the United States.
  • Prepare data collection reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist in carrying out the task associated with the quality control plans for various types of testing conducted by performing the routine calibrations and equipment checks.
  • Expected to follow the testing and inspection guidelines set forth.
  • Report to work on time as directed by supervisor.
  • Field personnel shall follow all Fugro safety procedures and other company policies, written or verbal.
  • Personnel are expected to travel extensively on a routine basis throughout California as needed.
  • Communicate tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
  • Come to work regularly and on time.
  • Execute work duties in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.
  • Work well while under supervision.
  • Able to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work while under stress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Possess current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather.
  • Previous pavement experience beneficial. 
  • Good mechanical, electrical, and technical skills required.
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness to travel.

Physical Qualifications

Performs heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

  • Most work performed outdoors is in undeveloped areas.
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The noise level in the fieldwork environment varies, and can be loud when working around equipment. Additionally, the field environment can be dusty, windy, wet, cold, or hot depending on the time of year and work location.  Employee must be able to tolerate changing and adverse weathers conditions.


  • Working knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office.
  • Geotechnical, Pavement, Civil Engineering field data collection experience is desired.
