Job Description

Develop project opportunities and markets, with particular emphasis on Southern California. Supervise projects and programs of high difficulty, with work being reviewed as needed. Primary Manager and client contact for multiple large projects. Supervise large, multi-disciplinary project teams and subcontractors. Handle all aspects of consulting business including participation in corporate management, business and client development, and direction of technical work. Competent in entire project cycle including client development, project scoping, team management, training, budget, schedule, and deliverables. Develop work to support multiple staff.

Roles and Responsibilities

Make decisions and recommendations recognized as authoritative and have a significant impact on extensive engineering activities. Initiate and maintain extensive contacts with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies. Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, determining objectives, organizing projects, and developing standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities.

 With minimal supervision and heavy decision-making

  • Responsible for an important segment of the engineering program of the company with extensive and diversified engineering requirements. 
  • Able to solve critical problems that require major technological advances and extensive development. The extent of his/her responsibilities generally requires several subordinate organizational segments or teams.
  • Recommend facilities, personnel, and funds required for programs, which are directly related and directed toward fulfillment of overall company objectives.
  • Recognized leader and technical authority in the company. 
  • Conceive and plan investigations of broad areas of considerable novelty and importance for which engineering precedents are lacking.
  • Consult extensively with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice. 
  • Direct team members or individuals assisting on projects.  Mentor performance excellence and adherence to quality standards. 
  • Produce accurate invoices and collect fees from clients in a timely manner.
  • Be able to travel extensively (required), both domestically and internationally.
  • Meet utilization goals as determined by Activity Center Manager or supervisor.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company's processes, including the safety program and quality management system.
  • Communicate tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Observe and follow all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Execute work duties in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.
  • Maintain effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
  • Comes to work regularly and on time.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Possess valid passport and current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills including comprehensive understanding of writing for engineering documents and related legal terminology. Ability to competently and professionally present project materials in client meetings including identifying and mitigating client concerns.
  • General knowledge of sales, pricing, and negotiating. 
  • Effective client relationship management with a dedicated client base and the proven ability to produce annual revenue. 
  • Ability to comprehend nuances of legal contract language and negotiate terms in the best interest of the company. 
  • Stay abreast of current professional practices, periodicals, and technological advancements. Maintain meaningful involvement in professional organizations.
  • Advanced knowledge of technology including standard office and engineering software and equipment.
  • Must be able to travel (international and domestic). 
  • Valid passport.

Physical Qualifications

  • Performs moderate work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Daily activities include both field and office environments.
  • Some travel may be required including possible long-term out-of-town assignments.
  • Possible international travel/assignments may be required.


  • 15+ years of relative, post-graduate experience required.
  • Master's degree from accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Geology, or equivalent. Ph. D. from accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Geology, or equivalent preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
