Job Description

Entry-level position for professional engineering work. Perform work assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of geophysical alternatives.  Work under general direction of Project Manager on complex projects requiring independent study.

Roles and Responsibilities

With general supervision and moderate decision-making:

  • Use prescribed methods to perform project tasks under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of detailed steps or processes.
  • Assist project professionals with project execution, proposal and report preparation.
  • Prepare invoices and monitor budget of projects throughout duration of the projects.
  • Execute "small" projects to gain experience in project management.
  • Ensure commitments to clients are met in both timeliness and accuracy.
  • Be able to travel extensively (required), both domestically and internationally.
  • Meet all utilization goals as determined by Activity Center Manager or supervisor.
  • Observe and follow all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company's processes, including safety program and quality management system.
  • Possess current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Communicate tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
  • Come to work regularly and on time.
  • Execute work duties in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.
  • Work well while under supervision.
  • Able to meet deadlines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work with others to achieve desired result.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, present information and ideas, and respond to questions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Practical knowledge of college-level calculus, geometry, statistics, and other related mathematical disciplines.
  • Understand advanced technical requirements and current Geosciences data acquisition procedures.
  • Stay abreast of current professional practices, periodicals, and technological advancements.
  • Maintain meaningful involvement in professional organizations.
  • Advanced knowledge of technology including standard office and engineering software and equipment.
  • Valid passport.

Physical Requirements

  • Performs moderate work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Daily activities include both field and office environments.
  • Some travel may be required including possible long-term out-of-town assignments.
  • Possible international travel/assignments may be required.

Knowledge/Skill

  • Master's degree from accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, Geology or equivalent required; Ph. D. preferred. E.I.T. preferred.
  • Familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
