Job Description

Fugro USA Land in our Commerce/LA office is interested in hiring a Staff/ Project Level Engineer or Geologist to assist with field investigation, engineering analysis and calculations, technical reporting, and proposal preparation. Staff and Project Engineers and Geologists perform geotechnical engineering, engineering geology and/or environmental studies for infrastructure, energy, ports and harbors, transportation, and industrial projects. Staff and Project level positions have similar requirements, with progressively more experience, responsibility, proficiency, engineering judgment, and project complexity required for the Senior Staff and Project levels.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Gather and interpret data and make professional judgments with guidance from senior professionals.
  • Perform all phases of project execution including drafting proposal, site exploration and laboratory assignments, analysis, report preparation, and construction observation.
  • Make technical recommendations and varying levels of project design decisions with guidance from senior professionals and in conjunction with clients and peers.
  • Work independently and efficiently to complete assignments and meet client commitments in a timely and accurate manner, and within budget constraints.
  • May be actively involved in project coordination and execution, including budget development and monitoring, management of field staff and subcontractors, engineering analysis, report writing, and client interaction.
  • Project level professionals act as a technical advisor to subordinate professionals and consults with senior professionals, as appropriate.
  • Generate and maintain client relationships that may include limited business development.
  • May participate in selecting the project team, as appropriate.
  • Participate in and support continuous improvement of the company's processes, including but not limited to the Fugro USA Land, Inc., safety program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Staff and Project Professionals have supervisory responsibilities of field staff and subconsultants. Project Professionals have limited supervisory responsibilities of subordinate staff.


  • Bachelor of Arts or Science with 0-6 years of experience
  • Master of Arts or Science with 0-4 years of experience (preferred)

Technical Skills

  • Individual must possess an understanding and knowledge of geotechnical engineering, geology, and related disciplines, and must possess an overall understanding of technical requirements and field data acquisition procedures.
  • Must be able to use software for communication, project management, and technical analysis.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, including:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures, regulations, and technical information; and write reports with clarity using good grammar.
  • Ability to mentor and transfer knowledge/technical skills to junior professionals, as appropriate.


  • Registered/licensed engineer or geologist (or equivalent)
