Fugro's GeoConsulting Service Line merges the talents of Fugro's geophysics, geology, geohazards and geotechnical engineering resources.  Our staff perform integrated engineering and geological investigations by combining geophysical, geological, geotechnical and geochemical information to develop a holistic understanding of site conditions as they relate to subsea engineering issues associated with offshore energy development.

Fugro is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Field Geoscientist within our GeoConsulting team in Lafayette, LA, part of the world's foremost geo-intelligence company, with capabilities that range from state-of-the-art data collection to sophisticated modeling and engineering analysis. The successful candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented.  You will work on challenging projects, both offshore and onshore, collecting and interpreting data using cutting-edge tools to characterize the seafloor and the underlying rocks and sediments. Working together as a global team, you will be expected to achieve extraordinary results in a demanding and challenging business environment that is constantly changing.


  • Work offshore (up to approximately 40%) on Fugro geophysical and geotechnical vessels for periods between 2 to 6 weeks, on regional and international projects. 
  • Work within a team environment collecting high-resolution geophysical and geotechnical data, seabed soil and rock samples and performing in situ testing using standard and novel marine coring and penetration tools.
  • During geophysical operations, perform offshore side-scan sonar (SSS), subbottom profiler (SBP), multi-beam echo sounder (MBES) (including backscatter and water column data), and 2D/3D high-resolution seismic data QC and interpretation.
  • During geotechnical operations, perform offshore core logging to classify seabed soil and rock samples, perform basic index and strength testing on collected samples, and package and store offshore samples for transport to onshore laboratory testing facility.
  • Guide and oversee field technicians in performance of seabed sampling and testing.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on all offshore geophysical data, geotechnical testing, and data processing, interpretation and reporting. 
  • Produce daily field reports and communicate progress to onboard client representative and/or onshore client.
  • Produce field reports using Fugro Quality Management Systems reporting protocol and procedures.
  • Support onshore (office-based) interpretation of high resolution geohazard survey data and exploration 3-D seismic data, preparation of interpretive geological illustrations using computer graphics programs, and creation of engineering geological reports and maps.
  • Completion of routine projects, including geologic and geohazards mapping, characterization, analysis, assessment, and related reporting under the guidance of more experienced geoscientists.
  • Maintains a good technical and professional reputation with Fugro client base.
  • Adhere to Fugro and client-required HSE protocol at all times.


  • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Geology, Geological engineering, or related field.
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office software, and ability to quickly learn job-specific software applications.
  • Familiarity or proficiency with software packages SMT Kingdom, SonarWiz, QPS Fledermaus, GlobalMapper, and ArcGIS is highly desirable.
  • Good writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work long hours (12-hour shifts) in the field, sometimes under pressure, and always within deadlines.
  • Ability to work offshore and travel internationally, without any visa restrictions.
  • Support for continuous improvement in company processes including, but not limited to, the Fugro safety program.
  • Acceptable driving record and possession of a valid driver's license, or ability to obtain one within 3 months.
